Crochet Racoon Granny Square

Materials

Dk / weight 3 yarn I used Paintbox Simply DK in Slate Green for the background colour (276 metres per 100g) and various different colours for the animals.

4ply yarn in black and white for the eyes on the 4, 5 and 6.5”

3 and 4 mm crochet hooks

sc =single crochet (double crochet UK)

hdc =half double crochet (half treble crochet UK)

dc = double crochet (treble crochet UK)

tr = treble crochet (double treble crochet UK)

sc2tog / sc3tog = sc 2/3 stitches together (double crochet 2/3 stitches together)

slst = slip stitch

blo = back loop only (crochet into the back loop of the stitch

Loop stitch 

Gauge

9 dc x 4 rows = 2” x 2”

 Eyes

If making small, medium and large use a 3mm hook and black 4 ply yarn.

If making extra large use dk black yarn and 4mm hook

Round 1: In a magic circle, ch1, 6 sc, slst to the first and pull tight. (6)

Fasten off with a long end for sewing, sew one white line for small, medium and large and two white lines for extra large.

Racoon

Make circle in light grey

Small 4” / Medium 5” square

EARS

Make two using light grey

Row 1: ch6, sc in the second chain from hook, sc 4. (5) Turn

Row 2: ch1,sc2tog, sc 1, sc2tog. (3) Turn

Row 3: ch1, sc2tog, sc 1. (2) Turn

Row 4: ch1, sc2tog. (1) Fasten off with a long end for sewing.

EYE PATCHES

Make two starting with dark grey

Round 1: Ch6, hdc in the third chain from hook, hdc 2, [2 hdc, 2 sc] in the last, working along the other side of the chain, sc 2, [sc 2, 1 hdc] in the last, slst to the first. (12)

Change to white

Round 2: ch1, sc 5, slst 1. Fasten off with a long end for sewing, sew eyes on, then sew onto the head.

MUZZLE

Using white

Round 1: Ch6, hdc in the third chain from hook, hdc 2, [2 hdc, 2 sc] in the last, working along the other side of the chain, sc 2, [sc 2, 1 hdc] in the last, slst to the first. (12) Fasten off with a long end for sewing.

NOSE

Using black 4 ply yarn

Make a magic circle, ch1, 6 sc in the circle, slst to the first. Fasten off with a long end for sewing, sew at the top centre of the muzzle.

Large 6.5” square

EARS

Make two using light grey

Row 1: ch7, sc in the second chain from hook, sc 5. (6) Turn

Row 2: ch1,sc2tog, sc 2, sc2tog. (4) Turn

Row 3: ch1, sc all. (4) Turn

Row 4: ch1, sc2tog x 2. (2) Turn

Row 5: ch1, sc2tog. (1) Fasten off with a long end for sewing.

EYE PATCHES

Make two starting with dark grey

Round 1: Ch6, hdc in the third chain from hook, hdc 2, [4 hdc] in the last, working along the other side of the chain, hdc 2, [3 hdc] in the last, slst to the first. (12)

Change to white

Round 2: ch1, sc 6, slst 1. Fasten off with a long end for sewing, sew eyes on, then sew onto the head.

Using white

Round 1: Ch6, hdc in the third chain from hook, hdc 2, [4 hdc] in the last, working along the other side of the chain, hdc 2, [3 hdc] in the last, slst to the first. (12) Fasten off with a long end for sewing.

NOSE

Using black yarn

Make a magic circle, ch1, 6 sc in the circle. Fasten off with a long end for sewing, sew at the top centre of the muzzle.
