Wagon Wheel Wreath for Summer DIY

Craft your very own wagon wheel wreath to add a touch of charm and elegance to your home this summer. This unique DIY project combines the timeless beauty of a wagon wheel with the vibrant colors and textures of summer blooms. Start by finding a vintage wagon wheel or repurpose an old one to give it a new lease on life. Clean and sand the wheel to remove any dirt or rust, ensuring a smooth surface for your wreath.

How to Decorate a Wagon Wheel Wreath

I ordered this simple wagon wheel shape online. You could do the same with a bicycle wheel shape that they sometimes sell at the dollar store. Then I picked up some artificial flowers and a pineapple cut-out from Joann's Fabrics and Crafts. I chose shades of purple as I knew I would be able to easily find purple flowers for my planters on the front porch.

Note: I originally thought I would paint the pineapple and write the word 'welcome' on it. However, in the end, I decided not to use it.

2. Next, I finished the wagon wheel with a walnut gel stain. You could also use craft paint in white or black. It's up to you.

3. Before I attached the flowers I played around with them. Once I had an idea of how they should look I took a picture with my camera phone for reference.

4. Then starting with the bottom layer of flowers I used a hot glue gun to attach them to the wheel.

Note: Since I was going to glue several flowers onto this rather thin, lightweight, wooden wagon wheel, I used Gorilla glue sticks for better staying power.

5. The second layer was a few lilacs set just below or to the left of the first set of purple flowers.

6. Followed by some greenery.

7. White clusters of little flowers are next because you always need a little white for contrast.

8. The final flower is the focal flower. A large violet dahlia in the middle. You could use a pretty ribbon and make a bow for the center instead.
