Crochet Astronaut Doll

Materials:
- Worsted weight yarn:
- 3 oz. MC
- ¾ oz. CC
- 5 yards flesh color
- 1 yard red or pink (for mouth)
- Size G (4.00 mm) crochet hook
- Fiber fil
- Yarn needle
- Plastic eyes
- Appliques
Directions:
FRONT:
Row 1: With CC yarn, ch 33, sc in 2nd ch from hook and each ch across (32 sc).
Rows 2-5: Ch 1, turn, sc in each st.
Row 6: Ch 1, turn, dec 1 st (sc 2 tog) each end (30 sc).
Row 7: Repeat Row 6 (28 sc). Fasten off CC.
Row 8: Turn, sk first 2 sts, attach MC in 3rd st, ch 1, sc across to last 2 sts. Leave these 2 sts unworked (24 sc).
Rows 9-22: Ch 1, turn, sc in each st. At end of Row 22, attach CC yarn, ch 5.
Row 23: Turn, sc in 2nd ch and next 3 ch. Switch to MC, sc in each st. At end of row, switch to CC and, fsc 4 times (32 sc).
Rows 24-25: Ch 1, turn, CC sc in 4 sts, MC sc in next 24 sts, CC sc in 4 sts. At end of Row 25, fasten off CC.
Row 26: Ch 1, turn, MC inc in first st, sc in next 30 sts, inc in last st (34 sc).
Rows 27-28: Ch 1, turn, MC sc in first 5 sts, CC sc in next 24 sts, MC sc in last 5 sts. Fasten off CC at end of Row 28.
Rows 29-35: Ch 1, turn, MC sc in each st.
Row 36: Ch 1, turn, dec 1 st each end (32 sc).
Rows 37-40: Repeat Row 36 (24 sc at end of Row 40).
Row 41: Ch 1, turn, dec, sc in next 5 sts, CC sc in next 10 sts, MC sc in next 5 sts, dec (22 sc). Fasten off CC.
Row 42: Ch 1, turn, sl st across first 5 sts, 2 sc in next sc, sc in next 8 sts, inc in next st, leave remaining sts unworked (12 sc).
Rows 43-44: Ch 1, turn, inc 1 st each end of row (16 sc at end of Row 44).
Row 45: Ch 1, turn, inc in first st, MC sc next 4 sts, flesh sc in next 6 sts, MC sc in next 4 sts, inc in last st (18 sc).
Row 46: Ch 1, turn, MC sc in first 5 sts, flesh sc in next 8 sts, MC sc in last 5 sts.
Rows 47-49: Ch 1, turn, MC sc in first 4 sts, flesh sc in next 10 sts, MC sc in last 4 sts.
Row 50: Ch 1, turn, MC sc in first 5 sts, flesh sc in next 8 sts, MC sc in last 5 sts.
Row 51: Ch 1, turn, MC sc in first 6 sts, flesh sc in next 6 sts, MC sc in last 6 sts. Fasten off flesh.
Rows 52-56: Ch 1, turn, dec 1 st each end (8 sc at end of Row 56). Fasten off MC.
BACK:
Repeat Rows 1-44 of Front.
Row 45: Repeat Row 43 (18 sc).
Rows 46-51: Ch 1, turn, sc in each st.
Rows 52-56: Ch 1, turn, dec 1 st each end (8 sc at end of Row 56). Fasten off MC.
ASSEMBLY:
With wrong sides together, attach CC at top of boots. Sc through both thicknesses, changing colors as needed to maintain color scheme. Continue around entire astronaut (stuffing as you go) and join with sl st in first st of edging.
Following lines on the photo, sew through all thicknesses with corresponding color of yarn. Pants seam runs from bottom of shoes to Row 30. Arm seams run from bottom of gloves to Row 36.
Glue on (or sew on) eye. If making for a child under 3 years old, embroider on eyes and buttons or use nontoxic fabric paint. Add appliques as desired or decorate with fabric paint. Weave in all ends.
