Supplies:

  • Bottle of Sparkling Juice ($3-4) or your favorite bottle of Wine or empty wine bottle
  • A roll of Jute Cord 2 or 3 ply ($3-7 depending on where you buy it)
  • Red Burlap Heart ( $5 at Hobby Lobby for 12) Or get it on amazon.
  • Burlap Ribbon 4″ wide ($4.99 at Hobby Lobby)
  • Hot Glue Gun and Hot Glue.

Instructions

Choose Your Bottle: Start with your favorite bottle of wine or sparkling juice. Give it a good clean and dust off any dirt. You can take off the label if you like, but honestly, it’s extra effort that’s not really necessary. No one’s going to notice it once we’re done.

Wrap It Up: Grab some jute cord and a bit of glue. Put a small dab of glue on the bottle’s bottom and start wrapping the jute cord tightly around it. Keep adding a bit of hot glue as you go to make sure the cord stays put.

Keep It Tight: As you wrap the cord around the bottle, add a little glue every few wraps to keep it snug and secure.

Up to the Top: Continue wrapping the cord around the bottle until you’ve covered most of it. When you get to the narrower part towards the top, you might need to add glue more frequently to prevent the cord from slipping.

Finishing Touches: Once you’ve got the bottle wrapped, cut the cord and secure the end with some hot glue.

Decorate with Burlap Ribbon: Take a piece of burlap ribbon, and glue it around the middle of the bottle for a nice, rustic touch. Trim any excess and secure it with glue.

Add a Heart: Stick a burlap heart on the front of the ribbon to give it a bit of love.

Admire Your Work: By now, your bottle should be looking pretty fantastic, and you could stop here. But if you’re feeling extra crafty, let’s add a final flourish.

Hide the Glue: If the glue is peeking out a bit, don’t worry. We’ve got a stylish fix. Glue a burlap rose right in the center of the heart to cover it up and add an extra touch of beauty.

Elevate your Wine Bottle Craft into a Gift

To turn your wine bottle craft into an even more memorable gift, consider adding a personalized touch:

  1. Attach a Gift Tag: Write a heartfelt message on a gift tag for the recipient. Highlight the thoughtfulness behind the gift by explaining it’s a two-in-one present: they can enjoy the wine or sparkling juice now and have a beautiful upcycled bottle vase later.
  2. Craft a “Date Night” Package: For someone truly special, elevate your gift by assembling a “date night” kit. Here’s what to include:

    • Chocolate: Choose their favorite kind for a sweet treat.
    • Dinner: You can either put together ingredients for a cozy pasta dinner at home or include a gift card to their favorite restaurant for a night out.
    • Entertainment: Add a fun element like a board game, movie tickets, or a DVD for a shared experience.
    • The Upcycled Wine Bottle Vase: Your handcrafted bottle vase will be the centerpiece of your gift, adding a personal and creative touch.

Instructions

  3. Ensure to use hot glue around the entire base of the bottle as you go to keep the jute cord in place.
  4. Tightly wind the jute cord around the bottle adding a little glue to keep it tight about every 5-10 wraps.
  5. Continue to wrap the bottle until you cover the label and the bottle begins to narrow at the neck.
  6. As the bottle begins to taper near the top, you will want to add a dab of glue about 2-4 times per round to keep it tight and from sliding up the bottle.
  7. Trim the jute cord and secure it tightly with hot glue.
  8. Wrap the burlap ribbon around the middle of the bottle, over the jute cord. Cut it to fit and then use hot glue to stick it in place securely.

  10. Hot glue a burlap rose into the center of the burlap heart.

Notes

You can use a wine bottle or sparkling juice bottle.

If you are making this for yourself, you will want an empty wine or sparkling juice bottle. If you are making it as a gift for someone else, use an unused brand-new bottle of wine or sparkling juice so the gift is extra meaningful.
