Wood Slice Winter Garland: Ornaments

Decide how long you want your garland to be and select a handful of the larger wood slices to work with.

The birch is soft enough to push the picture hanging screw into the wood without needing to pre-drill any holes.

Avoid using the smaller wood slices as the screws may cause them to split.

Wood Slice Winter Garland: Paint

Paint the front of the wood slices with a coat or two of the white acrylic paint.

Use a ruler and a pencil to lightly draw a grid on the wood.

Use a fine tip paintbrush to paint every other square with black acrylic paint.

Paint the squares under and above the black squares with the gray acrylic paint.

Mix the gray paint with a little of the white to make a lighter shade of gray and paint all of the squares next to the black squares with the lighter gray paint.

Wood Slice Winter Garland: Snowflakes

Once the acrylic paint is dry, use the snow writer to draw snowflakes on the wood slices.

Allow to dry completely.

The snow writer will give the snowflakes a fun 3-D effect.

You can also sprinkle glitter on the snowflakes while they are still wet if you really want them to sparkle.

String the wood slices onto the pine garland through the picture hanging screws.

Hang and trim the pine garland as needed.

I also made a “snowball” garland to go with the wood slice garland using white pom poms and twine.

Thread the twine through a large needle and string on the pom poms.
