Crochet Easter Basket Pattern Notes
- the basket starts with working the bottom circle
- you can make the bottom circle as big or small as you want the basket to be
- the main body is worked in sc blo with a raised V stitch at the front of the basket
- you can adjust the height by working more/less rounds
- the handle is worked at the end in rows of single crochet
- you can also adjust the length of the handle before attaching to the other side of the basket
Basket Bottom Circle
Start with creating magic ring.
Rnd 1: 1 ch (doesn’t count as a stitch throughout), work 6 sc into the mr, sl st to top of first st. [6 sc]
Close mr.
Note: due to the thickness of yarn, you can work over your yarn tail ends.
Rnd 2: 1 ch, 2 sc in each st around, sl st to top of first st. [12 sc]
Rnd 3: 1 ch, (1 sc, 2 sc in next) repeat around, sl st to top of first st. [18 sc]
Rnd 4: 1 ch, (2 sc, 2 sc in next) repeat around, sl st to top of first st. [24 sc]
Rnd 5: 1 ch, (3 sc, 2 sc in next) repeat around, sl st to top of first st. [30 sc]
Rnd 6: 1 ch, (4 sc, 2 sc in next) repeat around, sl st to top of first st. [36 sc]
Rnd 7: 1 ch, (5 sc, 2 sc in next) repeat around, sl st to top of first st. [42 sc]
Note: you can continue increasing the bottom circle until you reach the desired diameter of your basket.
Main Body of Basket
Rnd 1 – 2: 1 ch, 1 sc blo around, sl st to top of first st. [42 sc]
Rnd 3: 1 ch, work 1 sc in each of the next 19 sts, work scblo/dcflo2tog, 1 sc blo in each of the next 3 sts, work dcflo/scblo2tog, 1 sc blo to end, sl st to top of first st.
Rnd 4: 1 ch, 1 sc blo around, sl st to top of first st. [42 sc]
Repeat Rnd 3 – 4 another 3 times. Fasten off.
Crochet Basket Handle
Counting from the first st (including), miss 9 sc, join yarn in next.
Row 1: 1 sc in each of next 4 sts, turn. [4 sc]
Row 2: 1 sc in each st across, turn. [4 sc]
Repeat Row 2 until you have 30 rows in total or until you reach the desired length of the handle.
Miss next 18 sts on main basket and attach the handle to the next 4 sc on the other side of the basket by slip stitching through back loops only of the sc sts.
Finishing Touches
Sew in all ends or weave them through the loops of the basket on the inside.
It might be a little tricky to sew them in due to the thickness of the yarn.
Make 6 small pom poms in various colors. I used fuchsia pink, vintage pink and white but the color choices are totally up to you.
Tie the pom poms around the edge of the basket with triple knots and snip off the ends.
