  • Omega Sinfonia light (DK) weight cotton yarn (3 1/2 oz/ 232 yds/100g per skein):
  • 3 skeins #861 sand

    1 skein #838 brown

  • Size C/2/2.75mm crochet hook or size needed to obtain gauge
  • Tapestry needle
  • Sewing needle
  • Matching sewing thread
  • Small seashell beads: 14
  • Spray starch
  • Plastic wrap
  • Stitch markers: 12

    24 sc = 4 inches; 24 sc rows = 4 inches

    PATTERN NOTES

    Work in continuous rounds; do not join or turn unless otherwise stated.

    Mark first stitch of round. Move marker up with each round.

    Join with slip stitch as indicated unless otherwise stated.

    HAT

    Rnd 1 (RS): With sand, ch 1,6 sc in back bar of ch (see illustration), do not join (see Pattern Notes). (6sc)

    Rnd 2: 2 sc in each st around. (12sc)

    Rnd 3: [Sc in next st, place marker (see Pattern Notes) in sc just made, sc in same st as last sc, sc in next st] around. (18 sc, 6 markers)

    Rnd 4: [2 sc in marked st, sc in each st around to next marked st] around. (24 sc)

    Rnds 5—19: [Rep rnd 4] 15 times. (114 sc at end of last rnd)

    Rnd 20: Sc in each st around.

    Rnds 21 & 22: [Rep rnd 20] twice.

    Rnd 23: [2 sc in marked st, sc in each st around to next marked st, sc in marked st, sc in each st around to next marked st] around. (117 sc)

    Rnds 24-26: [Rep rnd 20] 3 times.

    Brim

    Rnd 1 (RS): With sand, ch 132, being careful not to twist ch, join in back bar of beg ch to form ring, ch 1, [sc in back bar of ch, place marker in sc just made, sc in back bar of each of next 10 chs] around, do not join. (132 sc)

    Rnd 2: [2 sc in marked st, sc in each st around to next marked st] around. (144 sc)

    Rnd 3: Sc in each st around.

    Rnds 4-25: [Rep rnds 2 and 3 alternately] 11 times. (276 sc at end of last rnd)

    Rnd 26: Rep rnd 2, join in first st. Do not fasten off. (288 sc)

    Edging

    Working from left to right, ch 1, reverse sc (see Stitch Guide) in each sc around, join in first st. Fasten off.

    Assembly

    With RS facing, using 40-inch tail on Hat, sew Hat rnd 49 to Brim rnd 1.

    Band

    With brown, make ch 32 inches long, sl st in back bar of 2nd ch from hook and in back bar of each ch across. Fasten off.

    With sewing needle and matching thread, sew 14 seashell beads randomly sp across center 20 inches of Band.

    Tie Band around Hat, tacking in front and in back to hold Band in place.

    Finishing

    Cover flat surface, such as a table, with plastic wrap. Following directions on spray starch bottle, spray underside of Brim thoroughly. Place Hat, sprayed side down, on covered surface. Flatten Brim. Allow to dry completely.
