Yarn: #3 DK/light worsted weight

  • Preemie – 6.6 oz/405 yds
  • Baby – 26 oz/1590 yds

Crochet Hook: Size H/8 (5 mm)

Notions: Yarn Needle

Gauge: 4 repeats x 11 rows = 4½” in pattern

Difficulty: Intermediate: Uses a mixture of basic stitches along with post stitches to create a visual texture effect.

Abbreviations:

ch – chain
sl st – slip stitch
sc – single crochet
yo – yarn over

Notes:

  • Blanket can be adjusted using multiples of 4+2.
  • When adjusting the size be sure to consider yarn requirements.
  • Total stitch count is provided at the end of each row. If there is no total then it is the same as the previous row.

Special Stitches:

  • Leafhopper Stitch – yo, insert hook in indicated st, yo, pull up loop, [yo, insert hook in same st, yo, pull up loop] 2 times, yo, pull through all 7 loops on hook.

Row 2: (RS) Ch 1, dc in first 2 sts, *leafhopper st, sk st behind leafhopper st, dc in next 3 sts, rep from * across, dc in last 2 sts, turn. (14, 29 leafhopper sts) (43, 88 dc)

Rows 3: Ch 1, dc in each st across, turn. (57, 117 dc)

Row 4: Ch 1, dc in first 4 sts, *leafhopper st, sk st behind leafhopper st, dc in next 3 sts, rep from * across, dc in last 4 sts, turn. (13, 28 leafhopper sts) (44, 89 dc)

Row 5: Ch 1, dc in each st across, turn.

Row 6: Ch 1, dc in first 2 sts, *leafhopper st, sk st behind leafhopper st, dc in next 3 sts, rep from * across, dc in last 2 sts, turn. (14, 29 leafhopper sts) (43, 88 dc)

Rows 7-44 (80): Repeat Rows 3-6.


BORDER

Round 1: Turn project 90 degrees, 3 sc in corner, *sc in each row-end across side of blanket, 3 sc in corner st**, sc in each ch across bottom, 3 sc in corner st, rep from * to **, sc in each st across last/top row, sl st in 1st sc to join.

Please Note: You will need an odd number of stitches on each side and one in each corner.

Round 2: Ch 1, *(sc, tr, sc) in corner st, [tr in next st, sc in next st] across, tr in last st before corner st, repeat from * around, sl st in 1st sc to join.

Round 3: Ch 4 (counts as tr) *(sc, tr, sc) in corner st, [tr in next st, sc in next st] across, tr in last st before corner st, repeat from * around, sl st in 1st sc to join. Fasten off.
