Materials:

  • Pisgah Yarn & Dyeing Co., Inc Article 930H Peaches & CrèmeTM 100% cotton worsted wt. (56.7 g. (2 oz.) balls, 122 yds./ball):
  • 1 ball #130 Shaded Pastels (Main Color (MC))
  • 1 ball White (Color A)
  • 1 ball Blue (Color B)
  • Size H (5 mm) crochet hook, or size needed to achieve gauge
  • Tapestry needle

Gauge: 14 sts & 16 rows = 4” in single crochet on size H hook


Terms/Abbreviations: beginning (beg), decrease (dec), double crochet (dc), half double crochet (hdc), increase (inc), remaining (rem), repeat (rep), single crochet (sc), single crochet two together (sc2tog), skip (sk), slip (sl), stitch (st), together (tog), triple crochet (trc)


Pattern notes: Mat is worked lengthwise. Wave border is worked all around outside edges, then seashell accents are applied to every other point around mat.

Mat

Row 1: With MC, ch 3, work 3 sc in 3rd ch from hk, turn (3 sc)

Row 2 (inc row): Ch 1, 2 sc in first sc, sc in next sc, 2 sc in last sc, turn (5 sc)

Row 3 (inc row): Ch 1, 2 sc in first sc, sc across to last sc, 2 sc in last sc, turn (7 sc)

Rep Row 3, increasing 2 sts ea row, until there are a total of 41 sc.

Next row: Ch 1, sc in ea sc across, turn (41 sc)

Working even on 41 sc, rep last row 21 times.

Begin decreases:

Next row: Ch 1, sc2tog, sc across to last 2 sc, sc2tog, turn (39 sc)

Rep last row until 3 sts remain. Fasten off MC.

Wave border

Rnd 1: Attach Color A to center sc of foundation row, ch 1, sc in same st, sc around entire mat, placing sts in ends of rows spaced out evenly so that work lies flat: 3 sc at each narrow end, 63 along each side for a total of 132 sts. Join with sl st, do not turn.

Rnd 2 (wave point rnd): Ch 4 (counts as first trc), in next st work (dc, hdc, sc). work along 63 sts of left side of piece in wave stitch sequence as follows: (sc, hdc, dc, trc, dc, hdc, sc) for a total of 9 wave “points” along side. Work across the 3 sts at other narrow end of mat to form one wave “point” as follows: in first sc work (sc, hdc, dc); in second sc work a trc; in third sc work (dc, hdc, sc). Repeat wave stitch sequence along 63 sts on remaining side of piece for a total of 9 wave “points”. In last unworked st at narrow end work (sc, hdc, dc), join with sl st to beg ch-4 and fasten off Color A.

Rnd 3: Attach Color B to beg sc, ch 1, sc in ea st around entire mat, working 3 sc in top of each trc to define points. Join with sl st and fasten off.

Seashell accents

Attach MC at center of point at one narrow end of mat. Ch 15, sc in 2nd ch from hk, sc in next 3 ch, work 3 sc in ea of next 3 ch, work 3 hdc in ea of next 3 ch, work 3 dc in ea of next 4 ch, sk last ch, join to same st on mat border at base of ch.

Fasten off and twist into seashell shape.

Rep seashell accent on every other point around mat. Weave in all tails.
