Finished turkey measures 5″ tall.

NOTE: Pipe cleaner should only be used if turkey is made for home décor. If making as a toy, pipe cleaner is not recommended.

Materials:

  • Cotton worsted weight yarn:
  • 45 yards rust
  • 15 yards white
  • 10 yards brown
  • 2 yards red
  • 5 yards yellow
  • 10 yards orange
  • Size G (4.0 mm) crochet hook
  • Two 6-mm black safety eye
  • Fiber fill
  • White pipe cleaner

Gauge: 9 sc = 2″, 9 rows = 2″

Directions:

Body:

Rnd 1: With rust yarn, ch 2 (or magic ring), 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook. Do not join. Work in continuous rnds throughout.

Rnd 2: 2 sc in each st (12 sc).

Rnd 3: *Sc in next st, 2 sc in next st, repeat around (18 sc).

Rnd 4: *Sc in next 2 sts, 2 sc in next st, repeat around (24 sc).

Rnds 5-9: Sc in each st.

Rnd 10: *Sc in 2 sts, dec over next 2 sts,* repeat around (18 sc).

Rnd 11: *Sc in next st, dec over next 2 sts,* repeat around (12 sc).

Rnd 12: *Sc in next st, 2 sc in next st, repeat around (18 sc).

Rnd 13: *Sc in next 2 sts, 2 sc in next st, repeat around (24 sc).

Rnd 14: *Sc in next 3 sts, 2 sc in next st, repeat around (30 sc).

Rnd 15: *Sc in next 4 sts, 2 sc in next st, repeat around (36 sc).

Rnds 16-23: Sc in each st.

Rnd 24: *Sc in next 4 sts, dec over next 2 sts,* repeat around (30 sc).

Rnd 25: *Sc in next 3 sts, dec over next 2 sts,* repeat around (24 sc).

Rnd 26: *Sc in 2 sts, dec over next 2 sts,* repeat around (18 sc). Stuff body.

Rnd 27: *Sc in next st, dec over next 2 sts,* repeat around (12 sc).

Rnd 28: Dec 6 times (6 sc). Join with sl st.

Close with Ultimate Finish technique: Cut yarn leaving 6” length. Using yarn needle, pick up outer lp of each st in the last rnd. Pull tight.

Tail:

Row 1: With rust yarn, ch 4, 6 dc in 4th ch (7 dc with beg 3 ch counting as first dc).

Row 2: Turn, ch 3 (counts as dc), dc in first st, 2 dc in remaining sts, 2 dc in top of ch-3 (14 dc). Fasten off rust yarn.

Row 3: Attach orange yarn, turn, ch 4 (counts as dc, ch 1), dc in same st, *sk next st, dc, ch 1, dc in next st (V-stitch made),* 3 times, dc, ch 1, dc in top of ch-3.

Row 4: Ch 1, turn, sl st in middle of V-stitch, ch 3 (counts as dc), dc in same sp, ch 1, 2 dc in same sp, *2 dc, ch 1, 2 dc in center of next V-stitch* 7 times. Fasten off orange yarn.

Row 5: Turn, attach brown yarn in center of ch-2 sp, ch 3 (counts as dc), ch 2, 2 dc in same sp, *dc between V-stitch of Row 3, 3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc in next V-stitch (shell made) , dc in V-stitch of Row 3,* repeat across ending with shell in last sp.

Row 6: Ch 1, turn, sl st in first 2 sts, sl st in center of shell, ch 3 (counts as dc), work 2 dc, ch 2, 3 dc in same sp, *3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc in center of next shell* 7 times. Fasten off brown yarn.

Row 7: Turn, attach white yarn in center of shell. Holding pipe cleaner in back of sts, ch 3 (counts as dc), 6 dc in center of shell, *dc in long dc of Row 5, 7 dc in center of shell,* repeat across.

Legs: (Make 2)

Rnd 1: Ch 2 (or magic circle), 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook. Do not join. . Work in continuous rnds throughout.

Rnds 2-9: Sc in each st. Join with sl st at end of Rnd 9.

Toes:

*Ch 5, sl st in 2nd ch from hook, sc in next 3 ch, sl st in next st of Rnd 9,* repeat twice. Fasten off yellow yarn. Weave yarn through Rnd 9 and pull tight to close.

Sew legs to bottom of body at the back side of Rnd 2.

Note: Pin legs in place first to see where they need to be placed in order to support the turkey.

Beak:

Rnd 1: With yellow yarn, ch 2 (or magic ring), 3 sc in 2nd ch from hook. Do not join. Work in continuous rnds throughout.

Rnd 2: 2 sc in first st, sc in next 2 sts (4 sc).

Rnd 3: Sc in each st. Join with sl st.

Fasten off yarn leaving 9” length for sewing. Sew beak to Rnds 7-8 of head.

Waddle:

With red yarn, ch 8, sl st in 2nd ch and each remaining ch. Fasten off leaving 6” length for sewing. Wrap across top of beak and sew in place with half of the waddle hanging down on one side.

Eyes: (Make 2)

Rnd 1: With white yarn, ch 2 (or magic ring), 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook. Do not join. Work in continuous rnds throughout.

Rnd 2: *Sc in next st, 2 sc in next st,* 3 times (9 sc).

Rnd 3: Sc in each st. Join with sl st. Fasten off leaving 6” length for sewing. Insert safety eye into center of Rnd 1. Sew eyes to face above beak, approximately 2 sts apart.
