Plastic Spoon Garden Markers

What a creative and eco-friendly idea! Using plastic spoons as garden markers is a genius way to repurpose and reduce waste. Simply write the name of the plant or herb on the spoon with a permanent marker, then insert it into the soil next to the corresponding plant. Not only will this add a touch of whimsy to your garden, but it's also a great way to teach children about recycling and sustainability. Plus, the spoons will eventually biodegrade back into the soil, making them a truly zero-waste solution.

You will need the following supplies:

  • 4 plastic spoons
  • sandpaper
  • paintbrush
  • toothpick
  • micron fine point black art pen

Americana Multi-Surface Paint Colors:

  • Sky Blue
  • Melonball
  • Chick
  • Peach Silk
  • Overcast
  • Bittersweet

How to Make Plastic Spoon Garden Markers

  1. Sand each spoon to knock off the shine.

Paint each spoon with a thin coat of paint, leaving the bottom 2-inches of the handle unpainted. This is where the spoon will go into the ground.

  1. When dry, paint a second coat and allow to dry completely.
  2. Use micron art pen to write herb names on the spoons.

Use a toothpick to dot on designs using the gray and brown paints.

Let these dry for a full 48 hours before exposing to the outdoor elements.

I hope you enjoyed this project as much as I did making it!
